Why do staplers have two methods
This method varies between staplers, as some anvils need to be simply pushed forward to allow pinning, while others must be rotated. Some staplers implement pinning by bending one leg of the staple inwards, while bending the other outwards.
Some modern staplers do not even include support for pinning. I have done this before. But only as an experiment to see if what I had been told, that the staple then acts like a pin, was true. You staple things to a bulletin board by leaving the stapler on the normal setting but swinging the stapler open on its hinge and punching down into the board freehand.
Unfortunately, it takes some effort to get all the people in the office to do this consistently. We ended up buying an additional stapler for everyone involved, in an unusual red color, setting the anvil on them to the pinning position before giving them out, and telling everyone to use only the red stapler for this process. Nah, he works for a private company even though they moved him to the basement.
Stapler anvils have two kind of grooves on the anvil that allow pins to close inwards and outwards? This method makes removal much easier than the normal stapling method, also known as the reflexive setting , which bends the staple inwards, causing a more permanent and harder to remove fastening.

As the legs hit the grooves in the anvil they are bent to hold the pages together. Many staplers have an anvil in the form of a "pinning" or "stapling" switch.
This allows a choice between bending in or out. The outward bent staples are easier to remove and are for temporary fastening or "pinning". Hold the base of the stapler firmly in one hand, then pull back the top of the stapler where the staple tray is.
Other stapler models include a silver tab on the bottom of the stapler, toward the back. Press it, and the stapler will automatically pop open, enabling you to use it for tacking purposes. Use the sturdy tabletop to line-up the edges of the stack of paper so they are even. Place the large stack of paper in the stapler so the stapler head is over the spot where you want the papers attached.
Press firmly on the stapler's handle until the staple has gone through the entire stack of paper.
